"I Thought I Could Fly"

Here is our first contribution to the blog. Bryan Morrison is a client of The Passage, and has previously contributed to Writes of Passage (see: Issue #15)

"I Thought I Could Fly"

I thought that I
Could fly
Without wings
On my own
Even a bird
Would not
Be such a fool.

Can a man
Be satisfied
When he knows
His own field
Like the back
Of his hand,
When he knows
Every stone?

A beetle rolls
A ball
Of dung
Towards its home
A scorpio
Is cursed to kill
And die alone.
If a snake should break
Its poisoned fang,
Then it must starve
And wither
and die.

I thought that I

Could fly.
